Sir:-
I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the
Admiralty to transmit to you herewith, for the informa-
tion of the Earl of Malmesbury a copy of a letter
from Captain Hall of Her Majesty's Ship "Calcutta",
dated the 2nd March last, and addressed to the Earl
of Hardwicke, on the subject of obtaining the
cession to this country of Cowloon Point and Stone
Cutter's Island two places in the vicinity of
Hongkong.
My Lords transmit these Papers in case Lord
Malmesbury should think it desirable to mention the
subject to the Earl of Elgin.
